About GST rates
Since 22 September 2025 most goods and services are taxed at 5% or 18%, with 40% for a short list of items. 12% and 28% still apply to a few items. Check the rate for your HSN or SAC code.

Questions people ask

How do I remove GST from a price?
Divide the price by (1 + rate). For ₹1,180 at 18%: 1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000 before GST, so the GST is ₹180. Choose Remove GST above and the calculator does this for you.
When do I split GST into CGST and SGST?
When the seller and the place of supply are in the same state, half the GST is CGST and half is SGST (or UTGST). When they are in different states, the whole amount is IGST.
How is the result rounded?
To the nearest paisa, half up. For CGST and SGST the tax is rounded once and split in two; when it doesn't split evenly the extra paisa goes to SGST, which is how Marketiism invoices do it too.
Which GST rate applies to my product?
It depends on the HSN code (goods) or SAC code (services). Check the rate on the CBIC GST rate finder or ask your accountant. The quick-pick rates here are only a shortcut.
