Questions people ask
Why are two categories shown?
The WHO bands call BMI 25 to 29.9 overweight. WHO's Asia-Pacific guidance, widely used in India, starts overweight at 23 and obese at 25 because Asian adults tend to carry more health risk at a lower BMI. Both are shown so you can discuss either with your doctor.
Is BMI accurate?
It is a quick screening number, not a diagnosis. It ignores muscle, bone, age, sex and where fat sits, so an athlete can show as overweight. Waist size and blood tests tell a doctor more.
Is this for children?
No. These bands are for adults aged 18 and over. Children and teenagers are judged on growth charts by age.
