Questions people ask
What is the IFSC format?
Eleven characters: four letters for the bank, then the digit zero, then six letters or digits for the branch. For example SBIN0001234 is State Bank of India.
Why does it not show the branch name?
Branch lists change often and are published by the RBI and each bank. This tool checks the shape and names the bank, but it does not carry a branch database. Check the branch on your bank's site or cheque book.
Is the fifth character a zero or the letter O?
It is always the digit zero. Typing the letter O is a common mistake, and the tool points it out.
