Questions people ask
How do I make text bold in WhatsApp?
Put an asterisk on each side with no spaces: *bold*. For italic use underscores _like this_, for strikethrough tildes ~like this~ and for monospace three backticks. The buttons add them for you.
Why is my formatting not showing?
A mark must touch the text and sit at the edge of a word. * bold * with spaces inside does not work, and neither does a mark inside a word, like snake_case_name.
Does the message pass through your server?
No. The text stays in your browser. 'Open in WhatsApp' sends it from your device straight to WhatsApp using a normal link.
Do lists and quotes work in every WhatsApp version?
Bullet lists (- or *), numbered lists (1.) and quotes (>) work in current WhatsApp versions. Older versions show the characters as plain text, which still reads well.
