It depends on the picture. Phone photos often shrink by 50 to 80 percent at 70 to 80 percent quality with no visible difference on a screen. Images that are already compressed, and small icons, may barely change. The result page shows the exact before and after sizes.

JPG and WebP are lossy: lower quality means a smaller file and, eventually, visible blur or blocks. Between 70 and 85 percent most people cannot tell the difference. If the result looks worse than you want, raise the slider and try again.

PNG is a lossless format, so your browser can only re-save it with the same pixels. To make a PNG much smaller, save it as WebP or JPG, or reduce its width. If a file would grow, we keep your original instead.

No. The compression runs inside your browser using its built-in image tools. Your files are not sent anywhere, so it is safe for ID cards, receipts and other private pictures.

Lower the quality and the maximum width a little at a time and check the result size. A 1000 px wide photo at 70 percent is usually well under 200 KB. Many forms ask for 50 to 200 KB, so a few tries is normal.
